Sweating for Your Health: The Benefits of a Sauna

Sweating for Your Health: The Benefits of a Sauna

Here at SWW we love a good sauna sweat session for not only relaxation and getting your body into a parasympathetic state but also for how they can support your overall health.

While Sarah always favors an infrared sauna, regular saunas (yes, think your hotel spa!) have lots of benefits.

1. Detox Support

Although your liver is your primary detox organ, toxins still need a way out. Alongside urination and elimination, regular sweating is one of the most effective ways for toxin removal. Incorporating regular sauna sweat sessions helps prevent toxic overload without putting your body into a stressed state.

2. Improved Circulation

Sauna sessions increase blood flow and overall circulation - adequately dispensing oxygen and nutrients to muscles and tissue.

3. Metabolic Boost

Saunas increase your overall metabolism, helping your body burn energy more efficiently. Over time, this can support healthy weight management and energy levels.

4. Stress Relief

Infrared saunas are effective in shifting your nervous system into a parasympathetic state, better known as “rest and digest”, which helps relieve stress and improve quality of sleep.

5. Muscle Recovery

Infrared saunas are especially effective for supporting sore and tired muscles. They are more effective at penetrating deeper into the tissue, helping support overall tissue healing and circulation for waste (lactic acid) removal and nutrient delivery.

6. Healthier Skin

Although sweating helps your overall complexion by opening up your pores, infrared saunas are extremely beneficial for skin health due to the infrared rays being able to penetrate into the dermis of your skin, supporting collagen production.

7. Immune Support

The elevation in body temperature helps recruit white blood cells, offering overall immune support. Consistent use may balance a healthy inflammatory response and help your body be more resilient to stressors.

To get the most benefit from infrared saunas, we recommend using around 2-3 times a week for 20-30 minutes at a time.
